Have you thought of starting doing workout in the gym but you feel uncomfortable walking through the door? Don’t worry, this is a very common reaction to those who are doing this for the first time. You might be comparing your body to those big muscled guy in the gym lifting weight or the very sexy and almost perfect body of the girl right next to you? Don’t let this anxiety stop you. This thinking could lead you to exercising at a lower intensity or worse, it could stop you from entering the gym again.

There are several ways to overcome this phobia. Let’s go over each one of them and try to do this everytime you are stepping inside the gym.
1. Choose the right motivation music. Music has a great effect on ones mood. With the right music that can hype you up in starting the workout, you could be stepping inside that gym without you even noticing it.
2. Prepare a set/playlist of songs that will keep attention away from your gymmates. Listening to your favorite music will keep your focus to your earphones or headphones and the routine your are doing.
3. Choosing the best time to go to the gym is another factor. Try going during the non-busy hours. Less people inside the gym, less chaos you will experience during your workout. With so much people doing intense workout will easily take away your attention to your routine. Ask the any gym staff as to what is the best time to workout with less people.
4. Stay focused to your workout goal. Whether it is weight loss or growing those biceps. Think of it as everyday you finish your workout routine, the more closer you are to achieving your goals or the feeling of getting stronger everyday.
5. Change your perspective. Ever thought that when you enter the weight room, everyone is staring at you? Well, it’s not true. No one even cares. It is a self imposed feeling when first get inside the gym. They won’t criticize you, they are even glad you decided to start giving priority to your body like they do.
6. Do it one step at a time. Don’t over do your workout. Simply start with the easy stuffs and slowly push yourself to do more. Even just by entering the gym is already an accomplishment. Proceed then to start your exercise and do more the next day.
7. Bring a buddy with you. Sometimes bringing someone with you having the same goal as you will ease up more on the gym phobia. Find someone you know who also would like to start going to the gym and try to sync your schedules.
These are just some of the few simple ways you can overcome your anxiety in the gym. Once you have been doing this for few days, the next sessions is just like going inside a mall.
